Reviews Guest Review: Eco Planet Organics 7 Whole Grain Hot Cereal

  • Reviewer: Amabelle Valenzuela
  • Name of the company producing it: Eco Planet Organics
  • What is it: 7 Whole Grain Hot Cereal
  • Flavour: Apple & Cinnamon
  • Special feature: Gluten-Free

I was hoping to avoid using the microwave to heat it up, so I boiled my water instead. While I was waiting for my water to boil, after writing down the packaging details, I was looking at the actual cereals. It was small pebbles laying around in its powdered cinnamon platform with bits and pieces of dried apples (I think there's about 6-8 pieces on it) scattered on it.

The package was really easy to open. I didn't need the scissors or anything sharp to open it. However, it was too easy to open that it did spill a bit on my counter top.

I noticed that the package itself has many words at the front. I was sitting down while I boiling my water trying to figure out what is what at the front. The list of ingredients should be at the back with the ingredients. They basically put all of that information and repeated it twice on the package, making it look cluttered – too much information. Sometimes less is better.

I poured the hot water on it and watched how the pebbles-like cereal absorb the water turning it into its fluffy self. Not the huge, disgusting fluffy kind; the tiny, soft fluffy kind. I noticed that even in its boiling hot state, the oats quickly cooled the hot water. It was as if I never boiled the water at all.

The oatmeal, by itself, with just the hot water is bland. It needs to add something sweet (i.e. sugar, syrup or honey). I chose syrup. I poured 2 tiered level syrup because the first time I put it, it wasn't sweet enough.

I'm the kind of person who loves to put milk on my hot cereal, so I added milk on it. Since I know that it absorbs heat really fast, I popped it in the microwave in its milk form.

2 minutes inside the microwave, I took it out. My phone rang with my daughter reminding me to leave an hour early for the parent-teacher meeting and I was on the phone for 2 minutes. When I got back to the cereal, it was not hot at all. It wasn't even warm. It seems like I didn't pop it in the microwave for 2 minutes.

Anyhow, when I started eating it with everything I like on it, milk and syrup. It melted in my mouth. It was really good but it left me hungry. Too bad there's no more hot cereals for me to eat anymore!
